Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a treatment for acne scars, sun damage, wrinkles, and other skin issues. This treatment can help with both small specific areas of concern and total skin resurfacing, depending on your needs.

The microneedling tool is a handheld device with small, tightly grouped, rows of needles. Dr. Polavaram uses the microneedling tool to make tiny holes in your skin. This, combined with PRP, stimulates your body to begin the healing process to smooth and rejuvenate your skin.

What is PRP?

PRP is a part of your blood. Your blood platelets have proteins called growth factors that prompt new cellular growth and encourage rapid healing. When your blood is processed in a special way, those platelets are concentrated to become extra-powerful.

Dr. Polavaram takes a small blood sample from your arm and then concentrates your PRP in a centrifuge machine. Then, Dr. Polavaram uses microneedling to move the PRP below your skin, directly into the tiny punctures. This positions the PRP exactly where it needs to be to stimulate healing and rejuvenation.

What are the benefits of microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling with PRP has a couple of major benefits. The needles break up scar tissue, pigmentation like brown spots, and damaged skin cells. This loosens the damaged tissue so you can either shed it naturally or reabsorb it harmlessly in the case of scar tissue.

The tiny punctures in your skin stimulate your body to make new skin cells and also prompt your skin’s sub-layers to start collagen induction. Over the next weeks and months, you’ll make new collagen to smooth away wrinkles, even out skin depressions, and firm up your skin overall.

The PRP enhances the healing and rejuvenation, giving you optimal results more quickly than you’d get with microneedling alone. Another benefit of microneedling with PRP is that it gives you natural collagen growth that can last for as much as a couple of years. In contrast, fillers may last for up to a year in most areas.
